This is a fantastic product which many vets I have used have recommended, over the many years I have had my chinchillas. It contains a lot of fibre and the aniseed/anise oil flavouring is surprisingly popular. I use it mostly after my chinchillas have had dental work and feed it with a syringe. At the time of writing (Oct 2023), VetUk is far cheaper than anywhere else online for the 454g pack, and that includes postage. I think last time I enquired what it would cost to buy from my own vet, they said something in the region of £60!

Very good product, highly recommended esp for pets who need extra care due to illness.

I’ve used oxbow critical care before so knew what to do (in case anyone has problems, mix into a sauce type consistency, use a pipette, you can drop it gently into where the front lips split or failing that there’s a tiny gap at the side of the front teeth where you can pop the end of the pipette into to force feed if needed, but please “burrito” your pet first to avoid accidents!). A great all round recovery food for herbivores (I have chinchillas),helped my female chinchilla enormously to keep her digestive system from seizing up but sadly she had root elongation so had to be euthanised sadly,we are devastated,we have 3 chinchillas left now so will keep the rest in freezer to extend the BBE in case we need it again at some point as it’s extremely versatile. VetUK have the best prices on this and many other items,so glad I found them and will continue using them and supporting this wonderful store with amazingly helpful, empathetic and very knowledgeable staff. Thank you VetUK

This is great for sick rabbits. My rabbit got this when he was ill after castration and some other times when his stomach was upset. He's back on his feet after a few hours. Now he's 10,5 years old and have been living mainly on critical care for a year because he has lost some teeth and can not chew hay (which he never liked much anyway so that doesn't bother him). I grind hay in a blender to powder and mix it with critical Care on 50:50 ratio. The water needs to be boiling when poured on the mixed powder. It works great in a normal syringe, but be sure to use a two-Component syringe, the rubber in three-component gets swollen from the mixture for some reason. This product makes me able to keep my best fury friend, he would not be around without it. Plus he likes it and his stomach functions perfect too! I feed him 4-5times daily and he oftens comes jumping to the feeding-blanket to tell me he'is hungry if I forget to feed him on time. I'm really glad you sell this in economypack because I couldn't afford a year of daily supply of the small bags sold by the veterinary. My rabbit eats one 454g bag/month.

My 'olds' guineas love this helps keep up their weight and as a treat loves having some carrot and potato baby food mixed in. Great for guineas after surgery as well.
